Resident Testimonial: Charlie and Lorraine Zito
The residents here at Grand Oaks come from very diverse and interesting backgrounds, which makes for some fascinating discussions. We’ve met some really great people in our time here. As Italians, our door is always open!
“Before Grand Oaks? How far back do you want to go?
We met in the seventh grade, started dating our senior year in high school and got married when we both finished college. Life got pretty interesting quickly, as we had five children in the first six years of our marriage. Our work on the Carter campaign brought us to Reston, VA, from Poughkeepsie, NY – and we’ve lived in the Washington, DC area for over 25 years. Grand Oaks became our home in February of 2019.
The staff at Grand Oaks was very sensitive to our emotional struggle giving up the gorgeous apartment we had in a historic building in the city. We are very grateful for the support they provided to us during that transition. We can not can speak more highly of their attention to detail and our well-being. Now that we’ve been here for a few months, living at Grand Oaks doesn’t feel like other assisted living facilities. It’s like living in a very fancy hotel. Our meals and laundry are completely taken care of, and we can enjoy life!

Our family was very involved in our decision-making process. Three of our five children are still in the DC area, so it’s very nice to be able to see them so frequently. It was very important for us and our children that we stay in the area, in the neighborhood that we know well and have known for so many years.
The quality of care and support we have access to via Sibley is second to none. Collectively, we simply weren’t able to continue living in our own home. Grand Oaks is an excellent community, and we’re very content here.
It is home.
Our advice to anyone transitioning into assisted living facilities: talk to everyone! Say hello, start conversations and get to know those around you. It’s what we do every day!”
