A Thanksgiving Unlike Any Other

Nov 18, 2020 | Health & Wellness | 0 comments

2020 has been quite the whirlwind. It’s hard to believe it’s almost over. While this year certainly looked a lot different than most, we’re doing everything we can to make sure the end-of-year holiday celebrations are safe and memorable for our residents.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. We will not be able to invite families to join us for a meal as usual, but we are offering our first-ever “Friendsgiving” mealtimes for residents to dine together while appropriately socially distanced. We’re also supporting our residents in virtual connections with their families who cannot celebrate in person with them this year.

Join Us for Friendsgiving at Grand Oaks

During the week of Thanksgiving (Monday – Wednesday), we’re offering reservations for residents to dine together in the rear of the dining room. Reservations for resident groups of up to 4 will be accepted for the following time slots: 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4:30 p.m., or 6 p.m.

If your loved one is a resident at Grand Oaks and interested in a Friendsgiving mealtime, you can make reservations by contacting the concierge desk and providing the preferred time and list of attending residents.

Our Executive Sales Director Jeanina will also assist in organizing groups in assisted living for Friendsgiving celebrations. The activities team will coordinate small-group Friendsgiving meals in the Oasis neighborhood, too. If you’re interested or think your loved one may enjoy this type of celebration, please contact Jeanina at jdivitt1@jhmi.edu

Celebrate Thanksgiving with Your Loved Ones Virtually

We’ll miss seeing all of our resident families this holiday, and we know our residents will too. So you may still celebrate Thanksgiving with your loved one, we are offering additional time and support for virtual celebrations.

The Grand Oaks team will assist with FaceTime or Zoom visits during the week of Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we are only able to support one of these 2 platforms at this time. During this holiday week, any regularly scheduled FaceTime or Zoom calls will not be conducted.

There are two types of support that our team can provide: Resident device connection support or Grand Oaks device connection.

If you or your loved one has computer or phone access, the team can assist with that device as needed if the resident is able to manage the device once connected. If the resident is unable to manage the device unsupported, our team will utilize one of our devices to connect virtually.

We will schedule calls for 30-minute blocks when using Grand Oaks devices. Calls will be scheduled between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Virtual connections will be scheduled in both the assisted living and Oasis neighborhoods.

To ensure all residents may have virtual connections, please coordinate multiple family members to participate in one virtual visit during the holiday week. Time slots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on Monday, November 9. To reserve a virtual visit, please contact Jordan Asrat by email at yasrat1@jhmi.edu.

From the entire Grand Oaks family to yours, we hope you have a safe, healthy, happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for trusting us for your loved one’s assisted living and memory care needs.
