His attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, and approachable personality help families feel confident and supported every step of the way.

Learn more about Ian and his role at Grand Oaks in our Q&A below.

Can you tell us about your educational and professional background?

Ian: I have a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Punjab, Pakistan. I joined the accounting field shortly after completing my education. Before moving to the United States, I was in the oil and gas sector. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and have been in senior living for more than two decades.

Over the years, I have developed extensive experience in financial management and senior living operations. Working in this field has allowed me to combine my analytical skills with meaningful, people-centered service. My background in multiple industries has given me a well-rounded perspective that I bring into my role every day.

What inspired you to work in senior living?

Ian: My closeness with my grandparents helped me fall in love with this industry. I also love the stories residents choose to share with me about their lives.

How would you describe your role and responsibilities?

Ian: I maintain the financial bookkeeping for Grand Oaks, from both an accounts receivable and accounts payable perspective, and, most importantly, keep our residents’ billing accurate.

My role also includes maintaining detailed records and coordinating closely with other departments to ensure seamless communication. Accuracy and transparency are at the core of everything I do.

What does an average day look like for you?

Ian: An average day for me involves responding to financial questions about bills, processing invoices, and banking.

I prioritize timely communication with families, ensuring that all transactions are properly documented and accurate. No two days are exactly alike, but consistency and precision are always my goals.

How do you approach welcoming new residents and their families from an administrative perspective?

Ian: I believe a smile breaks down all barriers. I try to be warm and welcoming and offer to be available for any kind of questions. I also like to educate them on the billing process.

Moving into senior living can feel overwhelming, so I make it a priority to clearly explain financial procedures in a simple and reassuring way. I want families to feel comfortable reaching out at any time, knowing they will receive honest and helpful answers.

What steps do you take to ensure residents and families feel confident and comfortable with the billing process?

Ian: I work with families by engaging in open dialogues about the billing process.

I double-check statements before they are sent out and proactively address any discrepancies. Transparency is key. When families understand the process and see consistent accuracy, trust naturally follows.

What was the most memorable interaction you have had with a resident or their families?

Ian: There are many, but what makes a lasting impression for me is when I am able to share personal experiences with residents and families alike.

Those moments of connection, when conversations move beyond business and into shared stories and laughter, remind me why I chose this field. Building genuine relationships makes the work truly meaningful.

What part of your work do you find most rewarding, and why?

Ian: Getting everything completed with accuracy has always made my day. Seeing the smiles on my residents’ faces and the appreciation from families for clarity and support reinforces the importance of my role.

In your opinion, what makes Grand Oaks different from other senior living facilities?

Ian: There is a warmth that you can feel from the folks working at Grand Oaks. We also have a high staff-to-resident ratio, allowing us to personalize the care we provide. That culture of compassion, combined with individualized attention, creates a community that feels like home.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Ian: I love fishing and watching sports. I have not had a chance to do any fishing lately, but I am looking forward to some soon!
